Open Question: Can anyone help me translate this Russian word - ПЕНИНГРАД ?

I'm going slowly insane trying to work it out. I think it's a place name perhaps - I know there are various clubs/ bars in Russia called this, but all the Google based info in unintelligible. Translation sites are useless, I've been down so many blind alleys...at one point I ended up on a fetishists nightclub website in Birmingham lol. Also - I don't know if this is important - the first letter on my source material is depicted as 'ʌ' I've assumed this to be 'pe' if I'm wrong it might make a big difference :( SERIOUSLY??? :O The shame! That Peningrad is what sent me all over the place...why the hell Peningrad? Is it an alternative spelling or is to do with me misreading the first letter?
